Apply Now →Poland operates a 12-year system of general education regulated by the Ministry of National Education. Polish is the official language of instruction. The academic year runs from September to June. Poland is a member of the European Union and has adopted the Bologna Process for higher education. Poland's education system has undergone significant reforms since 1989, producing consistently strong results in international PISA assessments.
Compulsory. Covers Polish language, Mathematics, History, Natural Sciences, Foreign Languages, Arts, Music, and Physical Education. Culminates in the Egzamin Ósmoklasisty (Grade 8 Examination) in Polish, Mathematics, and a Foreign Language.
Academic track. Students choose extended subjects for in-depth study. Culminates in the Matura examination — Poland's university entrance qualification, administered by the Central Examination Commission. The Matura is required for university admission.
Technical/vocational secondary education also culminating in a Matura certificate plus a vocational qualification.
University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University (Kraków), and Warsaw University of Technology are flagship institutions. Bachelor's degrees (Licencjat/Inżynier) take 3–4 years. Master's degrees (Magister) are 2 years. Poland has many English-language programs attracting international students.
